Couch shopping may seem like an easy task. You walk into a furniture store. You pick out a couch. The end. Anyone who has ever remodeled their home or decided to replace their couch knows finding the right one is not that simple.

Philadelphia lighting stores have realized  the days of simplistic overhead lighting and bedside table lamps are long gone. It’s not to say  that simple lighting is not worthwhile. It's just that these days lighting fixtures are not only an obvious source of light but they've become a trendy accessory.

Often people choose white room designs thinking it is a safe and effective route to go when in actuality they don't really know what color to pick.  White can be perceived as a neutral and a “safe” pick but it actually can be a strong and definite color choice with a lot of impact!  White can highlight specific items in a room

I thought that today we would talk a bit about past interior color trends to propel us forward. Did you know that we are unconsciously influenced by the times we live in when it comes to color?  What am I talking about?  In every time period there is a collective consciousness in art, music, etc and color is no exception. In the late 50’s and 60’s, blue (think TWA uniforms) was a big influencer so many colors have a blue cast – neutrals were very peachy, oranges were more rust and pinks were cool!

Color is a backdrop for what is in the room, a canvas if you will and not necessarily the major statement. Always consider what is going to be in the room and what kind of activity will take place there.  Will the room contain art that you would like to highlight, a backdrop for plants, a dining environment or a creative think tank?
