Fashion and interior design have always had a connection but never have they been more in sync than in the past few seasons. Fashion colors and silhouettes change seasonally whereas, traditionally, interior colors are updated every 4 years. This is all changing now – the modern consumer is used to, no make that expects, immediate gratification and sees interior choices as another facet of his or her lifestyle. For example if gold is in fashion right now, replacing silver in jewelry (and it is!), then it is simultaneously sought after in chairs, tables and finishes for the home. In the next couple of posts I am going to look at what is happening in fashion and it’s crossover into interiors

Feeling a little ho hum? Tired or running on the treadmill? Have you overdosed on energy drinks and you are still not feeling energized? Try adding orange to your home design. What is the meaning of the color orange? Orange evokes excitement, enthusiasm and is an energetic color. Don't worry about being jolted by the color orange since it also creates a feeling of warmth. In ancient cultures the meaning of the color orange was used to heal the lungs an increase energy levels.

Often people choose white room designs thinking it is a safe and effective route to go when in actuality they don't really know what color to pick. White can be perceived as a neutral and a “safe” pick but it actually can be a strong and definite color choice with a lot of impact! White can highlight specific items in a room

I thought that today we would talk a bit about past interior color trends to propel us forward. Did you know that we are unconsciously influenced by the times we live in when it comes to color? What am I talking about? In every time period there is a collective consciousness in art, music, etc and color is no exception. In the late 50’s and 60’s, blue (think TWA uniforms) was a big influencer so many colors have a blue cast – neutrals were very peachy, oranges were more rust and pinks were cool!
